Although it seems obvious, you would be surprised at how easy it is to ruin a recording by being thrown off due to the phone ringing. Remember to turn off/silence/unplug your phones when recording. More recently this also applies to computer noises such as twitter/facebook alerts. If you hear the Microsoft Windows shutting down sound then you have probably lost your recording anyway!
