Association of Commonwealth Archivists and Records Managers (ACARM)

Commonwealth countries share common legal and administrative traditions as well as common historical experience and a common language; the Association of Commonwealth Archivists and Records Managers (ACARM) provides a vehicle for sharing strategies and for addressing professional issues of concern to its members.

Association of Records Managers and Archivists

ARMA International is a not-for-profit professional association and the authority on managing records and information - paper and electronic.

Cedars

Cedars began in April 1998 and ended in March 2002. Its broad objective was to explore digital preservation issues. These range through acquiring digital objects, their long-term retention, sufficient description, and eventual access.

Digital Preservation Coalition

The Digital Preservation Coalition (DPC) was established in 2001 to foster joint action to address the urgent challenges of securing the preservation of digital resources in the UK and to work with others internationally to secure our global digital memory and knowledge base.

DigitalPreservationEurope

DigitalPreservationEurope(DPE), building on the earlier successful work of ERPANET, facilitates pooling of the complementary expertise that exists across the academic research, cultural, public administration and industry sectors in Europe.

JISC Digitisation Programme

The JISC series of pioneering digitisation projects is unlocking a wealth of unique, hard-to-access material from the 16th century to the present day, creating a critical mass of rich, permanent digital resources for the benefit of the widest user base possible within UK further and higher education.

LEADERS

The LEADERS (Linking Encoded Archival Description to Electronically Retrievable Sources) project aims to develop a generic computer-based toolset that will enable the creation of an online environment which integrates EAD encoded finding aids and EAC authority records with TEI encoded transcripts and digitised images of archival material and is flexible enough to handle a wide variety of archives. In doing so, LEADERS will directly contribute to the enhanced provision of remote user access to archives.

The Library of Congress

The Library is helping develop a national strategy to collect, archive and preserve the burgeoning amounts of digital content for current and future generations. They also hold several online collections and advise on digital library standards.

MLA (Museums Libraries and Archives Council)

MLA is government's agency for museums, galleries, libraries and archives. They deliver strategic leadership in England and in each of its regions and collaborate with partners across the UK. They offer advice, support and resources to funding bodies and other groups to incentivise innovation.

Research Information Network

The RIN's fundamental role is to undertake evidence-based research into information and data issues that relate to professional researchers - and particularly academic researchers - and to develop policy and guidance on that basis.

Society of American Archivists

Founded in 1936, the Society of American Archivists is North America's oldest and largest national archival professional association. SAA's mission is to serve the educational and informational needs of more than 5,000 individual and institutional members and to provide leadership to ensure the identification, preservation, and use of records of historical value.

Society of Archivists

A UK and Ireland based society existing to promote the care and preservation of archives and the better administration of archive repositories, to advance the training of its members and to encourage relevant research and publication.

UKOLN

UKOLN is a research organization that aims to inform practice and influence policy in the areas of: digital libraries, information systems, bibliographic management, and web technologies. It provides network information services, including the Ariadne magazine, and runs workshops and conferences.

UNSECO

The UNESCO Archives Portal gives access to websites of archival institutions around the world. It is also a gateway to resources related to records and archives management and to international co-operation in this area.

Audiovisual

The Association of Moving Image Archivists

The Association of Moving Image Archivists was established to advance the field of moving image archiving by fostering cooperation among individuals and organizations concerned with the acquisition, description, preservation, exhibition and use of moving image materials.

Association for Recorded Sound Collections (ARSC)

The Association for Recorded Sound Collections (ARSC) is an organization dedicated to the preservation and study of sound recordings, in all genres of music and speech, in all formats, and from all periods. ARSC is unique in bringing together private individuals and institutional professionals-everyone with a serious interest in recorded sound.

Audio Engineering Society

International and national professional society devoted to audio technology. The Technical Council responds to membership interest by providing information through conferences, conventions, workshops, and publications. They work on developing tutorial information of practical use to the members and concentrate on tracking and reporting the very latest advances in technology and applications.

Bay Area Video Coalition

BAVC works to preserve and digitize precious works of media art and other cultural artefacts. Since 1994, BAVC has preserved over 6,000 hours of audio and videotape.

British Library Archival Sound Recordings

In association with JISC the archives host over 12,000 recordings of spoken word, music, and human and natural environments in an online downloadable resource for UK further and higher education. Anyone can search or browse the information on this site but to access the audio resources a license is required.

British Library Sound Archives

Started in 1955, the archive has grown to be one of the biggest in the world, joining the British Library in 1983.

British Universities Film & Video Council

The Film Archive Forum represents all of the public sector film and television archives which care for the UK's moving image heritage. It represents the UK's public sector moving image archives in all archival aspects of the moving image, and acts as the advisory body on national moving image archive policy

The Educational Recording Agency (ERA)

On behalf of its Members ERA operates a Licensing Scheme for educational use of copyright material. Uniquely serving the UK educational sector, ERA is one of a range of collecting societies which help copyright owners and performers derive an income from the licensed use of their literary, dramatic, musical and artistic works. The ERA Licence relates to recording of both radio and television broadcasts.

Electronic Media Group

The mission of the Electronic Media Group is two fold: (1) to preserve electronic art, electronic-based cultural materials and tools of its creation; and (2) to provide a means for conservators and related professionals to develop and maintain knowledge of relevant new media and emerging technologies.

International Assosiation of Sound & Audiovisual Archivists

A growing proportion of the cultural legacy of the last 100 years is in the form of sound and moving image recordings. If your archive, library, museum, business or organisation is responsible for any aspect of the archival management of audiovisual material, or if you have a personal or professional interest in this important part of our heritage, then you could benefit from membership in IASA.

National Film and Television Archive

The bfi is the custodian of the UK's moving image heritage. The Archive collects, preserves, restores and then shares films and television programmes with the public.

Oral History Society

An national and international society dedicated to the promotion of collection and preservation of oral history. Provides advice and support alongside training, which is in partnership with the British Library National Sound Archive.

Prestospace

Institutions traditionally responsible for preserving audio-visual collections (broadcasters, research institutions, libraries, museums, etc.) now face major technical, organisational, resource, and legal challenges in taking on the migration to digital formats and the preservation of already digitised holdings. Technical obsolescence and physical deterioration of their assets imply widely concerted policy and efficient technical services to achieve long-term digital preservation. The principal aim is to build-up preservation factories providing affordable services to all kinds of collection's custodians in order to manage and distribute their assets

Southeast Asia-Pacific Audiovisual Archive Association

SEAPAVAA, founded in 1996, is an association of organizations and individuals involved in, or interested in the development of audiovisual archiving in a particular geographic region - the countries of Southeast Asia (the ten member nations of ASEAN), Australasia (Australia and New Zealand), and the Pacific Islands (Micronesia, Melanesia, Polynesia).
