A new advice document focussing on microphones which connect directly to computer via USB.
USB microphones are ideal tools for podcast, screencast, and audio feedback recording, and offer simple set-up and operation, and consistent results. Relatively cheap for the quality of results they can achieve when used correctly, they can be a cost effective way to upgrade your computer's audio capabilities, or to ensure that you can count on a consistent sound quality when working across different systems with the minimum of hassle.
Our new guide to USB Microphones for Voice gives a few representative examples of the many different designs and price points of USB microphone, and examines how their various features and specifications can affect how they are used and the quality of results.
As well as a comparison of main specifications and features, I have included an audio recording demonstrating and comparing five different USB mics recorded under identical conditions, which really brings to light the range of sound quality on offer. There are also sections offering advice on setting up and using a USB microphone to best advantage, and some things to consider when looking to buy one.
All-in-all a comprehensive introduction to the USB microphone for spoken word and voice-over.
