It has been possible to operate a digital SLR from a mobile device for some time but this has required a direct conection between the camera and a PC.

Chainfire have produced a new app which allows Android phones to operate many camera features via a USB cable.

Tethered operation is great for those times when the camera is in a difficult or dangerous position or when the photographer wants to view a larger version of the camera display. For more information on tethered camera operation have a look at our advice document.
