Silver Stripe, an open source CMS developed by a New Zealand company, has become the first open source web application to receive Windows Server 2008 R2 certification.

The content management system, which won the award for best open source project at the New Zealand Open Source Awards last week, is also the first web app written in PHP to receive this certification. It has had over 325,000 downloads in the 4 years that it has been in development.
Hopefully the receipt of this certification will help to spread the idea that open source is often the best direction to turn when choosing an application, not just for financial savings, but also because of quality, support and longevity of the product. Further information about the certification may be found in Computerworld and CMS Report.
