If a video or stills shoot includes recognisable subjects and the final use of the material is unknown or used to promote a product or service it is essential that model release forms are signed. We have just updated our model release FAQ with links to external sites where sample release forms can be downloaded.

After all the online speculation the independent review of Intellectual Property and Growth by Ian Hargreaves has finally been published. In November 2010 the Prime Minister David Cameron announced a review of how the Intellectual Property framework supports growth and innovation, and educational and cultural institutions have waited with baited breath to find out if recommendations would be made regarding hot topics including digital reformatting, orphan works and exceptions.

An antidote to the digital zoom

Tags: cameras | equipment | lenses | photography |The cameras built into most portable devices use fixed focal length lenses, to alter the framing the user normally has to move closer or further away from the subject or use the dreaded digital zoom. The digital zoom simply crops into the original frame to give a closer look. The zoomed image has no more image detail than the un-zoomed shot and so digital zoom should be avoided whenever possible.
